The nursery shopping has begun!

On Sunday my Mom and I spent the better part of a day eating cheap hot dogs (and frozen yogurt) and piling up a cart at Ikea with nursery goodies. We found some AMAZING stuff, and at great prices! Here's a little sneak preview of some of the things we have chosen:

hemnes dresser hemnes nightstand

In keeping with my love of checklists, here's a little list of the nursery items we need overall (the light grey being the things that we have).
  • Crib

  • Bassinet

  • Dresser

  • Floating shelf

  • Bookcase

  • Cozy chair with ottoman

  • Side table

  • Lamp

  • Curtains

  • Curtain rod

  • Blinds

  • Carpet

  • Artwork

  • Mobile

  • Wall star

  • Changing pad

  • Storage baskets

  • Clear storage containers (for other clothing sizes)

  • Closet laundry basket (for actual laundry)

  • Wicker laundry basket (with bag inside for dirty diapers)

Carpet has become a bit of a challenge. Ikea had nothing interesting, same with Sears, Walmart...and I don't want anything that screams 'nursery', ha ha. I really want something with a few colours and a pattern (the perfect disguise for Golden Retriever hair). I am considering going with the Flor system in this style:

I have ordered a sample (only 5 bucks!) so we'll see how it looks when it arrives. If I go this route, I will switch out the stripped curtains we got above for something like this:

I'm excited to see how it all comes together! And to share some before and after pics, of course.

  1. Great start! For the rocker, make sure to also get a small foot stool for when you first start out nursing. It's important to have good posture (knees bent at 90 degrees). Mark picked up one for me at Walmart, but Ikea also has a super cheep stool that would work perfectly. You'll only need it for a couple of months and then you'll be able to stretch out on your ottoman :)
For cribs, we got ours at PBK. Most are really $$ but they have one, the Kendal that is a more realistic price. We LOVE it. Warning: it's easy to get sucked into everything at PBK...such cute stuff. Make sure Billy takes you on a trip to the Bloor St location, it's the best!

  2. Btw, I believe it was two carts full of stuff........if they hadn't sold out of some stuff, it would have been three! hahaha
