Simple DIY Exfoliating Baking Soda Face Mask Recipe

bakingsodamask

I'm trying to take better care of my skin these days, as I mentioned in this post. I actually think I'm too late, sleepless nights have aged me a good decade, but better late than never.

One thing that I NEVER use are face masks. I never thought they really did anything, I never had time, yadda yadda yadda.

Not too long ago I started looking into them, and found a million recipes online. I like the idea of there being just a few ingredients, and better yet, ingredients I already have. I also didn't like the idea of using honey or egg or anything gross and sticky. Ew.

So, I experimented a little, and came up with the most simple recipe ever, and the results were AMAZING. Here's all you need.

Exfoliating Baking Soda Face Mask Recipe:
  • 2 tablespoons of baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons of water
That's it. Mix it together in a little bowl until a nice thick paste forms. This will give you enough to cover your face, neck, chest and the top of your hands.

Starting with clean skin, cover each area slowly using a GENTLE circular motion (it may not seem like it, but this is exfoliating your skin majorly, so go easy, you'll feel it after). I LOVED the texture of this, it felt like velvet.

Leave it on for 5 to 10 minutes, and gently rinse away. After your skin will feel a bit tingle, and it will be in need of some moisture. Slather on your face lotion (I like Aveda's Botanical Kinetics™ Hydrating Lotion) and that's it!

If you have extra time, try mixing up a bigger batch (just triple the recipe) and use it all over. It's like a spa in a box of Arm and Hammer. Bam.

  1. This sounds really good - and really simple. For years I have bought and used masks. Peel off masks, ones that dry and crack, clay masks, you name it. Didn't notice any difference afterwards. I'm trying this.

  7. Seriously burn-y but after applying some moisturiser, my skin feels lovely :)
Definitely not something to risk leaving on too long, though, and maybe not a good idea for sensitive skin.

    1. You know, everyone's skin is different and you're right, it's not for everyone. I actually have quite sensitive skin and I find the key is to be really gentle applying it...it's easy to underestimate how much it's actually exfoliating because it's so fine but it's REALLY taking that dead skin off. This reminds me...I need to do one of these soon! It's been a while :)

    1. The consistency is definitely liquidy, it won't be too dry a paste, but if you want it a little more paste-like just add a bit more baking soda! Either way it will really smooth out the skin! :)

    1. I definitely don't recommend doing this daily, it will likely irritate your skin. Try it weekly, I tend to use this monthly as I have sensitive skin :) glad you tried it and liked it!!

  17. We think so much alike!! I don't like using honey & egg whites either! I tried this mask for the first time this morning & IN love with it!

Another recipe for super silky soft skin that your significant other can't keep your hands off ;) is:

sugar * olive oil! I don't know the exact measurements...I just use it to make enough for my arms & legs. Even my face! Leaves your face feeling like silky sheets & does wonders for skin!

    Give it a go! <3
