How to Make a Basic Crochet Scarf

Easy Crochet Scarf is another wonderful gift idea for Mother’s Day, the easy crochet scarf is actually a four-row repeat with an optional fourth round if desired. This beautiful crochet scarf has been used by many as a headscarf and as an alternative to the bulky flat scarf worn by many women today. The easy crochet scarf comes in a simple solid color or one with a pattern in a variety of colors. You can make the scarf larger or smaller; thin or thick. Not too thick or too thin, ideal for everyday wearability.

With any of my yarns, I can create an infinity scarf in three basic steps. With worsted weight yarn (yarn that has been stretched), ch 3 (counted in the front), sc in the second chain from the hook, yarn round the chain to the end of the next stitch, chain (counted in the back loop), sc in the third chain from the hook, yarn round again to the end of the last stitch, chain (counted in the back loop), pull the yarn through the hook and finally wrap the yarn around the hook once more to form a loop, slip knot, and then slip the loop through the loops on your towel or other flat surface. Fasten the wrap at the top of the head above the eyes, just below the parting. If desired, you can shorten the wrap by decreasing the number of stitches in each step. This will allow you to wear the infinity scarf in a smaller size without sacrificing its beauty.

A beautiful scarf would not be complete without a chain stitch, and this is easily accomplished with my easy crochet scarf patterns. A single crochet stitch is abbreviated to chain stitch, and it consists of three basic stitches: chain, single crochet stitch, and double crochet stitch. These stitches are combined to form a circular pattern or a square pattern. There are different methods to make a chain stitch, but in this article we will focus only on the double crochet stitch. (It is sometimes called a ring stitch.)

To begin, choose a yarn that is the appropriate weight for the material you are working with. If using yarn that is bulky, use a thinner hook and thread for your first project. Also, if the project that you are crocheting is to be worn as a scarf, it’s best to use a lightweight yarn that is easy to handle. For those who are new to crochet, a baby doll crochet hook, which is small and round, is an excellent choice.

The first step of this project is to wrap the yarn around the hook so that it forms a loop. Crochet yarn comes in two styles, and these are referred to as standard and double-sided. The former is used for single crochet stitches and the latter is used for double crochet stitches. (A single crochet stitch is simply the vertical repetition of a single crochet stitch.) With the project closed, slip the hook from the right side into the front.

The next step is to pick up and hold the free crochet pattern that you are working with. This pattern should have a front flap and a back flap. The front flap can be worked separately as well as the back flap, and the same is true for the double crochet stitch. These are the necessary stitches to create the hooded scarf crochet pattern.

Beginning with the first chain stitch, which is the double crochet stitch, simply work the first row of the winter scarf pattern. Beginning at the frontmost chain stitch, work across the row in a circular motion, picking up and holding the hook as you go. This will help you maintain the same rhythm as you did when you began with your double crochet project. The next few stitches will repeat the previous stitches.

Easy crochet scarves make great gifts, or you could make one for each child in your life. This would be a wonderful gift for just about any occasion. In addition to being practical, these scarves are also beautiful. If you do not know how to crochet, it does not take a master to make these scarves. With the right combination of yarn and crochet technique, you too could become the proud owner of a crochet scarf. All you need is an idea, some yarn and pattern and you’re off.
